Ready to be a Turkish citizen?
After residing in Turkey for a long time, you are likely to fall in love with the country. You will be glad to know that if you meet certain requirements, you can actually apply for citizenship and officially become a Turkish citizen. Whether you are intent on staying in the country for work or just love the country and would like to live in it without the need to regularly renew your resident permit, getting Turkish citizenship is definitely the way to go.
Applying for a Turkish citizenship is a simple process. It can be done by either the applicant or their attorney. For you to be eligible for a Turkish citizenship, you need to be an adult as per your home country’s standards. You should also be able to prove that you have lived in the country for more than 5 years with interruptions totaling less than 6 months. You should also have no criminal records and be of perfect physical and mental health. If you are married to a Turkish, national, the minimum number of years you have lived in Turkey is reduced to 3 years. You will also need to prove that you can support yourself in the country.
When you have established that you meet all the requirements, you will then need to proceed to the application process. Some of the documents required for the application are 4 passport size photos, a valid passport, certificate to prove your mental and physical health as well as documents proving relationship or children where applicable.
The application form is acquired from the Town Hall. You will fill it in, attach the required documents and pay the application fee. The application is then forwarded to the interior ministry where they are reviewed by a panel. You will afterward be informed of the progress through mail. Turkey allows you to keep your original nationality. This is a great chance at achieving dual citizenship.
