What is Dogu Express?

Dogu (East) Express is a train trip that runs between Ankara and Kars. The train departs every day at 5:55 pm (Turkey time) from the state capital, Ankara. There are a total of 6 stops throughout the journey, and it takes 24 hours to complete one trip. The train stops at Kırıkkale, Erzincan, Sivas, Kayseri, Erzurum, and finally at Kars. Dogu Express, which has recently become a phenomenon especially on social media, is one of the most extraordinary adventures that you can experience only in Turkey.

What Does It Offer?

The Dogu Express offers its guests a magical journey with comfortable seats and beds. Also, you will get a chance to explore the eastern side of Turkey and its mesmerizing landscapes in just 24 hours. This train is amongst one of the most beautiful train journeys in Europe with the beauty of the scenery along the way.

The train journey may be exhausting, but the beds on the express are extremely comfortable. Try to sleep in Ankara after leaving the first station so you can see the magical sights of the journey in the morning. Erzincan, with its snow-capped mountains, is the first main station to stop. You can have a delicious lunch there. Erzurum, the second major station, is located 500 meters higher than Erzincan. During the winter, both cities are bitterly cold. Kars is the final destination. If you plan to stay in this historic city for a few days, book your accommodation before you arrive.

How to Buy Tickets?

The Eastern Express became so popular that the government decided to launch a touristic Dogu Express in 2019. A ticket for the regular Dogu Express was impossible to buy during peak touristic seasons. You can now find it on TCDD website or by contacting a travel agency.
