Process of Applying for Turkish Residence Permit
Application for a residence can be done in a number of ways, depending on where the applicant is. For applicants that are in Pakistan, the application should be done through the Turkish Consulate in Pakistan. For Pakistanis that are already in Turkey, application should be done through the local authority.
Before commencing the application process, there are certain documents that the applicant needs to possess. Depending on the type of permit the applicant is applying for, some of the documents that are required are:
- Biometric photo
- Flight itinerary reservation
- Income status/invitation letter
- Bank statement
- Hotel booking
- Travel document such as passport valid for not less than 60 days after the expiration of the requested permit period
- Employer/bank/school certification
After acquiring the required documents, the applicant should proceed to the actual application. This involves completing the application form and attaching the documents. The completed form and documents should then be submitted to the Turkish Consulate in Pakistan or Turkish Foreign Affairs offices. Turkish residence permits remain valid for as little as 6 months. Long-term residence permits are valid for an indefinite period. The application costs for a Turkish residence permit may vary given various factors.
Renewing the Residence Permit
Pakistani citizens that want to stay in Turkey longer than the validity of their permits are required to apply for a renewal. The application is done at the local authority offices and should be done at least 60 days before the expiry of the permit. The applicant is then issued a document that indicates the renewal is pending approval and their stay in Turkey is valid until the decision is made. The free document stays valid even after the expiry of the initial permit. The validity of the renewed permit takes effect exactly on the date of expiry of the previous permit. Application for the extension is done via the Turkish e-residence system.
A Pakistani can apply for a different type of Turkish residence permit during their stay. If for instance, a Pakistani gets divorced from a Turkish citizen and they want to stay in the country, they can apply for a short term residence permit. To be granted the permit however, the applicant must have stayed in the country for more than 3 years.
